Project Prakrit is Prayan Foundation’s environmental stewardship initiative dedicated to protecting and restoring our planet’s most vital ecosystems. Rooted in the belief that nature sustains all life, the project aims to counter the growing threats of climate change, pollution, and ecological imbalance—beginning with the lifelines of our civilization: rivers and waterbodies.
Project Prakrit focuses particularly on the rejuvenation of the Yamuna River and similar endangered ecosystems in the Delhi-NCR region. Through a mix of community action, youth engagement, and sustainable practices, the project aspires to build a culture of environmental responsibility and regenerative living.
Promote environmental consciousness among youth: Equip the next generation with the knowledge, values, and skills needed to become proactive environmental leaders.
Restore and conserve natural resources: Focus on reviving rivers, recharging groundwater, and preserving biodiversity through scientific and grassroots methods.
Conduct sustainable development activities: Implement initiatives such as plantation drives, upcycling programs, and plastic-free campaigns to build greener spaces.
Encourage community involvement: Foster collective environmental action by mobilizing local residents, institutions, and volunteers for hands-on participation.
Cleanliness Drives: Regular clean-up efforts have been conducted in local neighborhoods, parks, and water-adjacent areas to improve hygiene and aesthetics.
Plantation Drives: Thousands of saplings have been planted across schools, colonies, and urban wastelands to enhance biodiversity and combat air pollution.
Yamuna River Clean-up: Organized multiple riverfront clean-up campaigns with volunteers and environmental partners to remove waste and raise awareness about water pollution.
Upcycling Workshops: Introduced creative, skill-based workshops to encourage waste-to-resource transformation and reduce landfill pressure.
Expand Clean-Up Campaigns: Target neglected and highly polluted waterbodies across Delhi-NCR for systematic clean-up and restoration.
Youth and Community Partnerships: Collaborate with schools, colleges, RWAs, and local leaders to foster long-term volunteerism and eco-conscious habits.
Eco-Education and Skill-Building: Launch environment-themed learning sessions on topics like waste segregation, water conservation, and upcycling, focusing on practical impact.
Advocacy and Research: Prepare research-based whitepapers and conduct policy dialogues to influence sustainable practices at institutional and governmental levels.
“Adopt a River Stretch” Program: Empower communities to take ownership of specific stretches of the Yamuna or local lakes, ensuring regular maintenance, surveillance, and ecological care.
Project Prakrit stands as a call to action — reminding us that safeguarding nature is not just a choice, but a necessity. With every tree planted, every riverbank cleaned, and every mind inspired, we take one step closer to a greener, healthier planet.
